Asian swords and daggers

Gim Sword There are two basic types of straight bladed swords used in China. One is fairly long and heavy known as the Wu Jian or "Martial Sword". The other is substantially lighter and called a Wen Jian or "Scholar's Sword" and was primarily carried for personal self defense. After studying books and video tapes on the history and use of both weapons, Cold Steel decided to make their own battle worthy Gim (Wu Jian) for serious collectors and practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts. The blade of our Wu Jian is made out of 1050 spring steel and measures 30" long by 11/2" wide. For cutting and slashing, both edges are quite sharp and they terminate in a strong, useful point for stabbing. The traditionally styled guard and pommel are cast out of thick sturdy brass and fit snugly on a stout Rosewood handle that is both highly decorative as well as functional.

The Gim Sword comes with an excellent wood scabbard with brass throat, chape and sword rings and can be worn suspended from the belt or slung over the shoulder.

Cold Steel Katanas, Wakazashis and Tantos
The Japanese swords of the Premium Cold Steel Imperial Series have proven, since their initial introduction years ago, to be quite popular with many Cold Steel customers. Still, there are some people who want a battle ready sword but hope to find one at a more affordable price. Cold Steel's new Warrior Series addresses this problem directly. In order to reduce the costliness of the blades, they have omitted the expensive mirror polishing that they use on the Imperial swords to create a new series of Japanese swords with a more practical finish. The Warrior Series swords are very handsome in their own right and share the same 1050 heat treated carbon steel, heat treatment, and sharpness as their more expensive Imperial counterparts. Like the Imperial swords, they have Samé covered, cord wrapped handles and quality fittings. If you’re in the market for a strong, good looking, reasonably priced Japanese sword we know you’ll be happy to own one of these. Cold Steel has used only traditional materials for their Japanese sword’s fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar), is hand made out of polished brass and each hilt is covered in Samé (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful brass Menuki  (a small, ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle) enhances the sword’s aesthetic appearance and makes for a sword that is as traditional looking as we can possibly make it.                                                    1917 Military cutlass/Saber line

These swords have an history which stretches back to ancient times. Not only were they made famous in close quarter melees as pirates boarded treasure-laden galleons during the great "Age of Sail", they also have seen action as standard issue among many of the world's great navies. In 1917, the U.S. Navy decided to replace its Model 1860 cutlass which had been in continuous service for 57 years, with a new model. Cold Steel's® modern recreation of this classic fighting sword is as authentic as possible and virtually an exact copy of an original in the personal collection of Cold Steel® President Lynn C. Thompson. Just like the original, both feature a half basket guard stamped out of heavy 18-gauge carbon steel, blued to match the blade. The handles are fashioned from carefully shaped hardwood painted brown and secured to the full tang by three heavy brass cutler's rivets. The 1917 series swords are available with a 25" blade (Cutlass) or a 31" blade (Saber). Both feature blued blades to curtail rusting and short clipped points sharp enough for good penetration yet sturdy enough to resist bending or breaking.

Hand and  Half Sword
For a sword of this size, the "Bastard" or "Hand and a Half" Sword is amazingly light and fast and tips the scales at approximately 3 lbs. Its 33 1/2" long blade is quite wide so it can produce deep shearing type cuts yet pointed enough to be effective in a thrusting attack. Its long handle is suitable for both a one or two handed grip and is fashioned out of wood covered in black leather. To balance the long blade the butt is capped with a beautiful "scent stopper" pommel which can be a lethal weapon in its own right. Scottish Highlander's Baskethilts
                          

The traditional weapon of the highland clansman, these swords have sown fear into the hearts of Englishmen and other Scottish enemies for centuries.
The double edged bladed Broad Sword, is hand forged and beautifully polished with triple fullers. The stout basket hilt is made of blued steel with a black leather handle, decoratively wrapped in copper wire.

The Cold Steel Back Sword is virtually identical to the Scottish Broad Sword. Instead of a double edge blade, it sports a long single edge with a single fuller that runs almost the full length of the blade.
